Ask Adam is a WordPress AI assistant that combines a public-facing chatbot with site-specific knowledge and administrator tools. It can answer visitor questions using your website content, while Ask Adam Pro adds advanced capabilities for controlled WordPress content, media and page work.

Ask Adam goes beyond a basic chatbot by connecting conversational AI with a Knowledge Base, multiple AI providers and, in Pro, the administrator-only AI Site Manager.

Ask Adam Lite is the lighter, free entry-level experience, while Ask Adam Pro is the advanced WordPress AI assistant. Lite provides a way to start with Ask Adam but does not include Pro-only AI Site Manager capabilities.

Ask Adam Pro includes advanced features such as AI Site Manager, broader provider and search options, and controlled workflows for content, pages, images and design. For current subscription details, use the purchase or comparison links below rather than relying on fixed prices in this FAQ.

AI Site Manager is a Pro-only, administrator-only WordPress management workspace included with Ask Adam Pro. It is separate from the public chatbot, is disabled by default and is available under Ask Adam → AI Site Manager.

Administrators give Adam plain-language instructions and determine what it may do through granular permissions and publishing controls. AI Site Manager does not have unrestricted control of WordPress.

AI Site Manager can perform permitted WordPress tasks ranging from reading content to coordinating substantial page builds. Depending on administrator permissions, it can:

  • Read, create, draft, edit and publish posts or pages.
  • Work with categories, tags, authors, featured images and other post metadata.
  • Generate and upload images, inspect images and use visual references.
  • Work with existing block templates and create or style page content with page-scoped CSS.
  • Propose protected page-scoped JavaScript for explicit review.
  • Remember conversation context for follow-up instructions and target a page or post with the Work on workflow.

Complex builds can use a Job Coordinator with progress and recovery instead of treating the entire project as one simple AI response.

Yes. Ask Adam Pro can create and edit WordPress content and assist with substantial page builds when the administrator grants the required permissions. It can prepare drafts, revise existing posts or pages, manage supported metadata and build page content within controlled workflows.

Administrators can use Design Studio to discuss or draft a design and build direction before execution. Design with Claude can support architecture, front-end building and art direction, while provider-specific tasks remain routed to suitable providers rather than assuming every provider performs every task.

Ask Adam Pro includes controlled image generation, image inspection, visual-reference, Media Library and featured-image workflows. Claude can participate in page and front-end design, including inline SVG work, while OpenAI can generate raster artwork.

Generated media is added through WordPress workflows, and administrators retain control over permissions, placement and publication.

Administrators control what AI Site Manager can access and how its changes reach the live site. Only basic read permissions are initially enabled, and plugin/server enforcement works together with WordPress capabilities.

  • Draft Only: the conservative default; work remains in draft form.
  • Approval Required: changes are prepared for administrator preview and approval before becoming live.
  • Automatic Publishing: requires explicit administrator acknowledgement and appropriate permissions.

Page-scoped JavaScript receives special protection: it requires administrator review and approval and cannot silently execute on the live site.

Ask Adam supports OpenAI, Anthropic/Claude and xAI/Grok, including multi-provider routing and failover. Available presets can evolve as providers update their services, so this FAQ does not hard-code model-version recommendations.

Ask Adam Pro can also use optional live web fallback or search through Brave Search, Serper/Google and Exa Neural Answer API. Web search requires configuration and is not the same as the website Knowledge Base.

The Ask Adam Knowledge Base crawls and indexes selected website content so the assistant can answer site-specific questions. Semantic and vector retrieval help locate relevant passages instead of relying only on general AI knowledge.

Choose useful public content, crawl and index it, then test representative questions. Re-index after important site changes and exclude private or unsuitable material.

Yes. Ask Adam supports customer-supplied provider API keys, commonly called bring your own key or BYOK. AI-provider and search-service usage charges are separate from the Ask Adam license and depend on the provider, selected service or model, and actual API usage.

Review the provider’s current billing and data-handling terms, protect keys as sensitive credentials and revoke or replace a key if you believe it has been exposed.

Ask Adam uses administrator-controlled configuration, granular Site Manager permissions and server-enforced publishing rules to limit actions. Requests may be sent to the AI or search providers an administrator enables, so site owners should review those providers’ privacy and retention terms before use.

Grant only the permissions needed, keep WordPress and plugins updated, protect API credentials, review proposed changes and avoid placing sensitive information in prompts unless your policies and provider configuration permit it.

Ask Adam is designed for WordPress and its public widget is intended to work across modern themes and common page-building setups. Site-specific themes, optimization tools, security rules and builder output can still create conflicts, so test the widget and any page changes in your own environment.

AI Site Manager can work with supported WordPress content and existing block templates. Compatibility with a particular third-party builder or custom implementation should be verified before broad deployment.

The current ecosystem includes Ask Adam Lite, Ask Adam Pro, Doc It, AdamBox Pro, Crypto Analysis Pro and Database Inspector Pro. Each tool has a different purpose; Ask Adam Lite and Pro are the products focused on the WordPress AI assistant experience.

AdamBox is a lightweight live and community chatbox for WordPress, while Ask Adam is a WordPress AI assistant. AdamBox enables conversations between website visitors or community members, with AI helping moderate those conversations. Ask Adam instead answers questions and assists with website knowledge and, in Pro, controlled WordPress administration.

AdamBox can create a global site-wide room, page-specific rooms, multiple numbered rooms on one page and custom named rooms shared across pages. Its shortcode options include a default global [adambox] room plus page, numbered and custom room configurations, allowing site owners to organize conversations around their content and communities.

AdamBox uses GPT-5.6 Luna for AI-powered moderation of community conversations. Luna’s role in AdamBox is moderation; it is not presented as a chat participant or visitor-facing chatbot. Administrators configure the AI moderation requirements and moderation behavior through the WordPress settings tools.

AdamBox Pro gives administrators direct controls to Kick, temporarily Mute or Ban users from conversations. Mutes can range from short temporary periods through 24 hours. Bans can last 30 days or remain permanent until lifted, and global bans can block a user from AdamBox conversations across the site.

Moderation controls are available directly from chat and through a WordPress administration area. Expired mutes and bans are cleaned up automatically.

Yes. AdamBox includes WordPress administration tools for chat settings, moderation management and shortcode help. Administrators can configure the chatbox title and subtitle, theme colors, avatar and emoji display options, AI moderation settings and moderation behavior.

For current edition details or pricing, consult the latest AdamBox product and purchase information rather than relying on an unsupported Free-versus-Pro feature split.

⚡ Quick Start

  1. Install and activate the appropriate Ask Adam edition using the current product instructions.
  2. Connect a supported AI provider with your own API key and select an available preset.
  3. Configure and enable the public widget, then test it on the front end.
  4. Select suitable public content for the Knowledge Base, crawl/index it and test site-specific questions.
  5. In Ask Adam Pro, enable AI Site Manager only if needed, review its granular permissions and keep Draft Only until you intentionally choose another publishing mode.

Menu labels and provider presets can evolve, so use the labels shown in your installed version rather than an older setup guide.

  • Widget not visible: confirm it is enabled, check display targeting, test while logged out and clear page, plugin, server and CDN caches.
  • API authentication error: verify the correct provider and key, confirm the provider account is active, then replace a revoked or malformed key.
  • Knowledge Base answers are missing: confirm the intended pages were selected and indexed, re-run the relevant indexing process and test with wording found in that content.
  • Crawl, indexing or generation times out: review WordPress and server logs, cron operation, outbound requests, PHP limits and host-level timeouts; contact the host when server limits are involved.
  • Works without cache but not with cache: purge all cache layers and exclude the relevant dynamic or API routes where your cache documentation recommends it.
  • 403, REST or AJAX failures: security plugins, bot protection or a web application firewall may be blocking requests. Review logs and narrowly allow the required Ask Adam routes rather than disabling protection site-wide.

After each change, test one known question in a private browser window. If the issue remains, collect the exact error, time, affected URL and relevant server log entry before requesting support.
